Everything in this list is what I'd recommend as well. It helps a ton that Tristan and I have almost exactly the same tastes. Also you can skip to 16:50 to see my favorite show of all time.

I've had to exercise my "I don't say this often, but you NEED to watch this" level of suggestion with the group of college friends that would get together each week and watch anime for an evening back in college. (Best friend was in the Japanese language house and they had the hookup)
